October 27th Let's taste Armenian Wines!

Armenian wines, possibly the oldest we know!

Hi there Rotterdam Winelover,

Our theme for the next tasting is: Armenian wines. Possibly the oldest wine country in the world and yet we hardly know of it. Luckily we have found some experts that are willing to tell us all we need to know!

Reserve October 27 in your diary because that's when we will be tasting Armenian wines.

Do you know any of these wineries?
ArmAs, Armenia, Gevorkian, Gregorian, Keerk, Tor Tori, Van Ardi and the Vivat Armenia...
These come from the cradle of the ancient wine world. Traces have been found showing that wine was already being produced around 900 BC in Armenia.

If the wine tastes good now, why wait? Drink it today and preferably with good company. Carpe Diem

In order to share and discuss these wines with each other, we are going to have a fun tasting.

We have set a new date: Thursday, October 27.

New tasting

When: Thursday, October 27 @ 19:30
Where: Het Ret Gebouw - Waalhaven Oostzijde 1, 3087 BM Rotterdam
Theme: Armenian Wines
What: 5 x 1/2 glass wines, bites, stories, lovely people
Tickets: € 30,00 p.p. (Early Birds € 25,00): € 30,00 p.p. (Early Birds € 25,00)

Until then, stay healthy, and keep having fun!
Wine regards,
Ronald and Rudy

For this tasting, we chose this historic harbor building of the old RET remise, now called Het RET Gebouw in the South of Rotterdam.

By bike from the center
15' bike ride from Rotterdam Centraal via the Maastunnel.

With Public Transport
Take bus number 72 from Metro Station Zuidplein and get out at Sluisjesdijk. You will be almost in front of our location.

A fresh start! Old World versus new World Wines!

A fresh start! Old World versus new World Wines!

Thursday, the 24th of March @ 19:30, the new team will relaunch Rotterdam Wine Lovers, bringing new energy and marking a new era for our wine club!

Let’s start the tastings again!

Our theme for the next tasting is: Old versus New World. Everybody knows the traditional wines like Margeaux and Pomerol from France and the Brunello and Amarone from Italy. Quite sturdy wines for very sturdy prices.

Are they really that special and worth it?

The New World is now also growing fast. Often at reasonable prices. Perhaps they cannot be stored for 20 years, but why would you want to? Who knows what the world will look like in 20 years time?
You can enjoy them as always in generous 1/2 glass portions next to delicious cheeses and cold cuts, accompanied by lovely stories and friendly people.

We look forward to seeing you all again to raise our glasses on this brand new beginning of Rotterdam Wine Lovers.

8 surprising wines from the South of Italy

I love the wines of the Italian South! There are still so many undiscovered grapes and wine styles. So unique. It's unlikely that you will ever get to taste them if you do not hunt them down or travel to specific regions of Italy and ask for them specifically. For my personal study of wines from the South of Italy, I have 8 different bottles of very special wines, most of which I'm sure you've never heard of! Exciting right?!

Big Volcanic Wines

Big Volcanic Wines

California, Etna, Vesuvius, Lanzarote, Santorini, Cape Verde, Hawai, New Zealand...Places where lava and ashes destroyed towns, even whole civilizations, but give us today big wines of exceptional character and quality.

Wines born in ashes, at extremely inhospitable environments, give real dimension in what we call terroir (= the land from which the grapes are grown imparts a unique quality to the wines, that is specific to that growing site). These wines often share a few common traits: fresh acidity, minerality, intense aromas and great aging potential.

In this meetup, we will taste 6 exceptional wines (white and red) produced in volcanic soils. Expect to have 3-4 full glasses of wine with accompanying finger food. As always good wines, good bites and good people! This time, we will blow up your taste buds ;-) Hope to see you there!

Athens Wine Lovers Kick-off Meetup: Greek Winter Reds

Right before all Greek wine makers come together to showcase their babies at Oenorama 2016, we kick start our very first Athens Wine Lovers Meetup with an all-time classic wine lovers theme: Winter reds...

A glass of strong, full-bodied red wine is arguably the best companion on a cold winter night; ok perhaps next to a blanket, a fireplace and a warm hug 😊 we can't really take care of the latter, but we can at least work on the wine. Let's come together to taste, share and tell the stories of our favorite red wines. Let's hold on to the winter feeling a little longer by bringing good wines and good people together!

Get your tickets here!

What to expect?

  • Informal and laid back atmosphere. No suits & no snobs please!
  • We are drinking the wine, not just tasting it
  • Good wine storytelling
  • 6-7 wines from Greek and international grapes paired with the appropriate finger food

As always good wines, good bites and good people in a cool space in Rotterdam! This time, with an extra edge ;-)

**Please do not forget to get your tickets in advance, so I can get the proper amount of wine and food to last us through the event :)**
