Wines from Jura, France's most obscure wine region

Did you think you knew all the wine regions of the most famous wine country in the world (yes, France)? Think again! The motherland of terroir has still lots of surprises in her sleeve.

Her name is Jura. Jura’s wines are different from wines made anywhere else in the world. Which is exactly what makes this region so much fun to explore!

Jura is a tiny region between Burgundy and the Swiss Alps. It's famous for producing compte cheese and grows grapes unique to the region such as, Savagnin, Trousseau, Poulsard/Ploussard, as well as grapes from the neighboring Burgundy, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

We will taste 6 wines from Jura. As always, there will be bites to accompany the wines. And of course the laid-back vibes you know us for ;-)

Taste the unique Vin Jaune
Literally, 'yellow wine', this is Jura's most famous wine style. Made with the local Savagnin grape, harvested late, gets its character from being matured in a barrel under a film of yeast, known as the voile, on the wine's surface. Vin jaune shares many similarities with Sherry, including some aromas, but unlike Sherry, it is not a fortified wine.
